A 75 anni appena compiuti, il nostro Chris ha superato quella che forse per lui è stata la sua più grande battaglia. Nel corso della primavera del 2020, il cantautore ha contratto il virus COVID-19 che gli ha innescato la rara sindrome neurologica di Guillain-Barré, causandogli la temporanea paralisi delle gambe, delle mani e del viso. Grazie a un lungo percorso di riabilitazione fisica e di terapie adeguate, Chris è riuscito a recuperare l’uso degli arti e la capacità di suonare la chitarra. (E con quale maestria).
Vederlo oggi in piedi in mezzo a un suo set personale di 7 chitarre al centro del palco è stata una grande emozione per tutto il pubblico della Usher Hall di Edimburgo.
Un tour molto apprezzato dalla critica e dai suoi fedelissimi Fan per la sua impeccabile musicalità soft rock e la scaletta dal sapore nostalgico. La sua voce rimane straordinariamente riconoscibile tra i timbri sonori più inconfondibili della musica americana, capace di raggiungere le sue classiche note di registro alto, mentre la sua band di supporto offre un paesaggio sonoro ricco e raffinato che mette in risalto alla perfezione i suoi successi più iconici che attraversano quattro decenni.
La serata si basa in gran parte sui suoi primi due album vincitori di Grammy. La sua musica gli ha fruttato ben cinque Grammy, un Oscar, un Golden Globe, una nomination agli Emmy e cinque singoli nella Top 10. Brani amati dal pubblico come “Sailing”, “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)” e “Ride Like the Wind” generano costantemente le reazioni più calorose.
Supportato da una band clamorosa che merita elogi e soprattutto ve la presentiamo in tutto il suo splendore.
Al pianoforte Jerry Léonide, Mauriziano, fonde le sue radici caraibiche con il jazz moderno, uno dei più affermati pianisti sulla scena jazz europea, ha vinto prestigiosi premi e il suo album di debutto, “The Key”, ha ricevuto ampi consensi per la fusione di ritmi mauriziani e armonie jazz, mettendo in luce la sua tecnica virtuosa e la sua sensibilità musicale. Durante la serata e’ spiccato il suo stile esecutivo dinamico e ricco di sfumature.
Alla batteria Francis Arnaud, francese di grande fama che ha girato il mondo come membro principale della band di Christopher Cross. E’ entrato a far parte del gruppo nel 2016.
Ai fiati Andy Suzuki, Finlandese di origine Giapponese, in 30 anni di carriera si è esibito con il leggendario Dave Brubeck, ha “scambiato quattro” con Al Jarreau in “Take Five”, ha suonato in “Autumn Leaves” con Chick Corea, inutile dire che il suo tocco virtuoso al fianco di Christopher è la seconda voce di supporto in tutto il concerto che si unisce alle stupende voci delle vocalist. Alterna Sax, Clarinetto e Modern Bansuri, una meraviglia per le nostre orecchie e il nostro cuore.
Al Basso Kevin Reveyrand si colloca tra i grandi. Con il suo punto di vista di compositore affermato, offre un punto d’incontro tra jazz, canzone e world music che inventa una sorta di folklore immaginario come un esperanto che ignora risolutamente i confini. Kevin mantiene lo spazio per l’essenziale, il fondamentale, l’eleganza e la purezza.
Vocalist: Jewelee Peters, Lisbet Guldbaek e Stephcynie Curry tre voci dalle grandi sfumature, coreografiche, rispettose, ritmiche in ogni parte della serata e in grado di sollevare la voce di Chris ogni qual volta se ne senta il bisogno. Non mancano i momenti dove ognuna di loro duetta con Cross fino ad arrivare a intrattenere il pubblico con “Ride Like the Wind”. Tutte e 3 le coriste hanno un lungo percorso da solista e come Backgroud Vocals tra i più grandi artisti di tutto il mondo.
Prossimo tour estivo: Dopo le date da solista ed europee, Cross è previsto in tour in Nord America con un grande tour collettivo insieme a Toto e The Romantics.

FareMusic was in Edinburgh for Christopher Cross’s new 2026 UK Spring Concert Tour.
Having just turned 75, our Chris has overcome what was perhaps his greatest battle. During the spring of 2020, the singer-songwriter contracted COVID-19, which triggered the rare neurological syndrome Guillain-Barré, causing temporary paralysis of his legs, hands, and face. Thanks to a long process of physical rehabilitation and appropriate therapies, Chris has regained the use of his limbs and the ability to play the guitar. (And with what mastery!).
Seeing him standing center stage today amidst his personal set of seven guitars was a thrill for the entire audience at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall.
A tour highly praised by critics and his loyal fans for its impeccable soft rock musicianship and nostalgic setlist. His voice remains remarkably recognizable among the most distinctive timbres in American music, capable of reaching his signature high register, while his backing band offers a rich and refined soundscape that perfectly highlights his most iconic hits spanning four decades.

At the piano, Jerry Léonide, a Mauritian native, blends his Caribbean roots with modern jazz. One of the most accomplished pianists on the European jazz scene, he has won prestigious awards, and his debut album, “The Key,” received widespread acclaim for its fusion of Mauritian rhythms and jazz harmonies, showcasing his virtuoso technique and musical sensitivity. His dynamic and nuanced playing style stood out throughout the evening.
On drums was Francis Arnaud, a renowned Frenchman who has toured the world as a lead member of Christopher Cross’s band. He joined the group in 2016.
On wind, Andy Suzuki, a Finnish musician of Japanese origin, has performed with the legendary Dave Brubeck over a 30-year career, swapped places with Al Jarreau on “Take Five,” and played on “Autumn Leaves” with Chick Corea. Needless to say, his virtuoso touch alongside Christopher is the second supporting voice throughout the entire concert, complementing the vocalists’ stunning voices. He alternates between sax, clarinet, and modern bansuri, a marvel for our ears and our hearts.
On bass, Kevin Reveyrand ranks among the greats. With his perspective as an accomplished composer, he offers a meeting point between jazz, song, and world music, inventing a kind of folkloric imagery like an Esperanto that resolutely ignores boundaries. Kevin preserves space for the essential, the fundamental, elegance, and purity.
Vocalists: Jewelee Peters, Lisbet Guldbaek, and Stephcynie Curry are three voices with rich nuance, choreographed, respectful, and rhythmic throughout the evening, capable of lifting Chris’s voice whenever needed. There are plenty of moments where each of them duets with Cross, culminating in the audience being entertained with “Ride Like the Wind.” All three backing vocalists have extensive solo and background vocal credits, and are among the world’s greatest artists.
Upcoming summer tour: After his solo and European dates, Cross is scheduled to tour North America on a major tour with Toto and The Romantics.
